Создавая иные миры, писатели-фантасты иногда придумывают такие вещи, явления или отношения, которые представляются нашему земному разуму совершенно непонятными и нелогичными. Сами писатели живут на Земле, обладают таким же земным разумом и не совершают полетов в космос. Они создают чужие миры из того, что есть под руками, из того, что есть на Земле.
Для создания серии были выбраны привычные земные объекты – мячи. Вновь открытым небесным телам присваивается сначала временное обозначение номер, отражающий дату его открытия. Когда орбита тела, например, малой планеты, определена достаточно точно, чтобы можно было надежно предсказать ее положение в будущем, тело получает постоянное обозначение - номер в каталоге.

Creating fantastic worlds SF writers invent certain objects, phenomena and relationships, which appear completely incomprehensible and illogical to our earthly minds. These authors live on Earth, they got the same earthly reason as the rest of us and do not take part in space expeditions. They create their extra-terrestrial worlds from things they have at hand, from what they find here on Earth.
Objects selected for this series are perfectly ordinary earthly ones – balls. Newly discovered celestial bodies are first given temporary designations, numbers reflecting the date of their discovery. When the orbit of a celestial body, for example a minor planet, has been established with sufficient precision so that its future position in space could be predicted with accuracy, it receives a permanent designation: a number in the catalogue.
